Jelly Flux is the first in a series of ‘jellies’ that I have planned. Many of you may be wondering why I chose to brand my blog – and future initiatives – with the word ‘jelly,’ so below is a break down of my thinking:
Let’s start with the definition of jelly for the linear, left brain folks out there.
jel·ly | gel·a·tin
noun
gelatin: an edible jelly (sweet or pungent) made with gelatin and used as a dessert or salad base or a coating for foods.
Just as the latest buzz on which I report can be exciting and innovative (sweet) or a complete train wreck (pungent), ‘jelly’ offers a good descriptor for both and covers the whole gamut of news topics.
Jelly Flux also offers…
- enjoyable content for readers to consume (a yummy dessert)
- can potentially spark ideas or new thinking (a salad base)
- can be a supplement to mirror your own views (a coating for foods)
Now, for the creative, right brainers, jelly is just a catchy word that has lots of happy and positive connotations — from the comforts and joys of childhood found in peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to the idulgent treat of a jelly donut. Plus, there’s something fun and silly about the word jelly that you just can’t help but smile when you hear it.
Take a listen:
You just smiled. Go on, admit it.
For the tech and web 2.0 crowd, ‘jelly’ conjures up thoughts of stickiness and strategies for making content compelling for optimal user experience and return visits. And apparently, there’s even an old school hardware tool called ‘Red Jelly Flux’ that I was unaware of when I coined the name, but works well as technology is the ‘nuts’ and ‘bolts’ through which this blog was created.
Taking all of those elements into consideration, the reason I chose ‘jelly flux’ is because, as we’ve established, jelly is a catchy, memorable term and the content is designed to be sticky so that you keep coming back to consume more gelatinous goodness. And flux because the buzz is always moving fast – especially in the Internet space – so jelly flux offers a continuous stream of information for your reading enjoyment.
There are also some complex and highly scientific connections between ‘acclimation,’ the foundation upon which my company, Acclimedia, was built and ‘jelly’ but that may be a bit much to delve into on a marketing blog.
But above all, I just thought it sounded really cool.
